Summer Reset

A PAUSE, A BREAK, A GENTLER PACE.

Summer can be the first chance of the year that we get to breathe out, re-energise, look back at the year so far and take stock.

As we enter the last third of the year, how is it going for you so far?

With great intentions at the start of the year, we can get caught up with the busyness of life and go off course.
That’s ok and now’s a great time to use the reflection from over the summer and recalibrate.

Taking Stock…
Are goals you set at the start of the year going to plan?
Are you happy with how things are going so far, in work, in life?
What could do with a change? What’s holding you back?
What IS going well so far?

If work doesn’t feel right or you’re feeling unfulfilled in your life, chances are something’s not sitting right with your core values.
Spend some time working on what’s important, exciting, meaningful to you.

Using other people’s lives as a yardstick doesn’t help.
What was important five years ago, may not be now. Know what’s really important to you, now, not what you think ‘should’ be.

Being sure about what you do want doesn’t mean it will be easy, but an ‘easy’ life is usually unfulfilling.

Think about it, remember a time or achievement when you felt most proud – like a project in work or running a marathon or passing exams.

The satisfaction came because of the hard work you put in, with the moments of doubt, the wobbles along the way and the little successes that kept you going.

You are proud because it was you, working at your best on reaching a goal that you wanted
… and probably very much connected to your core values.

Remind yourself of what you’ve achieved before so you know you can achieve this goal.
It might take courage, but you’ve been courageous before… and it will feel good when you get there.

Reflect on the change you want and ask yourself

– Is now a good time?
Be realistic about what’s going on in your life.
However, make sure you’re not waiting for ‘the right’ time. It may never come.

– What are the benefits of making this change? What’s the cost to you if you don’t?
Picture how you want your life to be. Listen to your gut and what it’s telling you.

– What obstacles might get in the way?
Prepare for setbacks. Most of the time we know what they will be. Plan now so you won’t be held back when they happen.

– Have you the right people around you?
Let people know what you’re trying to do, getting help, support and advice. You don’t have to go it alone!

– What small, achievable steps can you start building in to get back on track?
We get overwhelmed trying to do too much. Focus on one small thing you can do today.

So, what do you want to be different by the end of this year?

You can slip back into the busyness of life or you can start doing things you love.

The year’s not over. Is now the time to reset?
